Agent Adrian Hancock found a hidden gem when he purchased 5yo mare Reliability for owner-breeder Harry Perks at the 2008 Inglis Great Southern Sale.

Reliability had won at Moonee Valley for Katsumi Yoshida a couple of weeks after Delta Blues carried his colours to victory in the 2006 Melbourne Cup.

Hancock Quality Bloodstock (FBAA) purchased her from the Shadai Stallion Station owner for $35,000 at Oaklands and, after a couple of couple of minor winners, she has hit pay-dirt with up-and-coming stayer Pretty Punk.

Pretty Punk won the LR Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville last month and is on track for the G1 VRC Oaks (2500m) on November 3.

Perks (pictured) will lodge a $55,000 late-entry fee for the VRC Oaks at Flemington if she pays her way in the LR Geelong Classic (2200m) on Wednesday.

“She won her maiden by 8 lengths and then blew them away in the Hill-Smith,” co-trainer Leon Macdonald said.

“She’s going to be hard to hold out over the extra distance at Geelong.”

Pretty Punk is bred keep improving over the classic trip at Flemington.  Her sire Rebel Raider (Reset) caused a $101 upset for Macdonald and Perks when beating Whobegotyou in the 2008 Victoria Derby.

And Reliability is by Japanese sire Kurofune from a three-quarter sister to Irish-bred LR Bendigo Cup winner Forlona (by English Derby winner Nashwan).
