Geisel Park sire Manhattan Rain made Top 10 at the world-renowned JRHA Select Foal Sale on Tuesday when a colt by Kizuna (Jpn) from his Group 1 winning mare She Will Reign made the equivalent of AUD1.94 million.
Kizuna (Deep Impact) stands at Shadai Stallion Station for an AUD112,000 service fee and has sired 33 black-type winners since claiming Japan’s First and Second Season Sire premierships in 2019 and 2020.
Manhattan Rain mare She Will Reign won the 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) for trainer Gary Portelli and Darby Racing before being sold and transferred to Shadai’s Hokkaido nursery at Northern Farm.
The bidding was brisk on her February 9 born foal who was in the ring for just a few minutes before the gavel fell to the final bid of Hirosaki Toshihiro.
Geisel Park sire All American also made headlines when his Group 1 winning mare Yankee Rose was purchased privately off the track by Northern Farm owner Katsumi Yoshida. Her Duramente 3yo filly Liberty Island was a six-length winner of the Group 1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) in Tokyo last year.
Her third foal, a colt by Lord Kanaloa made the equivalent of AUD4.49 million at the 2021 JRHA Select Foal Sale. That’s the highest-price paid for a foal or a yearling out of an Australian-bred mare at the JRHA Sales.
The prominence of her daughter Liberty Island has seen Northern Farm retain her 2yo filly Madison Girl (Kizuna) and yearling filly by Contrail (Deep Impact). Her foal this year is a colt by Saturnalia (Lord Kanaloa).
Manhattan Rain ($8,250) and All American ($4,400) stand alongside Aysar ($8,800) and Winning Rupert ($8,800) at Geisel Park. All fees (inc GST). For bookings or further information, contact stud manager Conor Dunlop on 0447 434 735.
