Gingerbread Man bounced back to his brilliant best with a strong win in the G3 Singapore 3YO Sprint (1200m) at Kranji on Friday night.

Earlier this year, the Shamardal colt had been stretched out to 1600m with a view toward the recent Dubai World Cup meeting.  That didn’t work out and trainer Bruce Marsh brought him back to a sprint trip with pleasing results.

“We had to push him a bit hard as we wanted to find out if he would be good enough to go to Dubai,” Marsh said.  “We knew he had the ability and the potential but unfortunately it didn’t quite work out.  His class helped and it was a great thrill to see him win.”

Gingerbread Man (3c Shamardal – Quaffle by Hurricane Sky) is raced by Joe Singh after being purchased for $30,000 from Rothwell Park at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.

Darley shuttler Shamardal sired Gingerbread Man from a mare with speed and stamina in her pedigree.  Quaffle is a half-sister to Listed QTC Lightning Hcp winner Golden Snitch (Unbridled’s Song).  

His second dam Sydney’s Spy (Snippets) is a half-sister to G1 AJC Epsom Hcp winner Iron Horse (Zephyr Zip).  Third dam Spyglass (Sir Sian) was a two-time Group 1 winner at Ellerslie in the 1987 NZ Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and the 1989 Auckland Cup (3200m).

Quaffle was served by Lonhro last spring and will go under the hammer at the Magic Millions National broodmare sale at the Gold Coast in June.
