Godolphin starts 15 horses in Breeders’ Cup

A year after Sheikh Mohammed and his wife Princess Haya of Jordan combined for three Breeders’ Cup victories, Godolphin Racing is preparing 15 horses for the Championships at Santa Anita this Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7.

Last year, Godolphin’s Midshipman won the Juvenile while Princess Haya was listed as the owner of Classic winner Raven’s Pass and Juvenile Turf winner Donativum.

The previous high for Godolphin was 8 starters in the 2001 Breeders’ Cup at Belmont Park when the event encompassed 8 races on a single card.  That group delivered wins with Tempera in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Fantastic Light in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).

This year, Godolphin has multiple candidates in 6 of the 14 races including Girolamo and Regal Ransom for the US$5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).  Girolamo (A.P. Indy) won the Jerome Handicap (G2) and Regal Ransom (Distorted Humor) the UAE Derby (G2) in March and the Super Derby (G2) in September.

Godolphin also has Forego Stakes (G1) winner Pyro and 2008 champion 2yo Midshipman (Unbridled’s Song) entered for the Dirt Mile.

Godolphin mares Cocoa Beach and Music Note are in the Ladies’ Classic and Sara Louise and Seventh Street in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

Its Breeders’ Cup Mile contingent comprises Delegator, Gladiatorus and Justenuffhumor while the Breeders’ Cup Sprint is the target of Gayego who is a last-start winner of the Ancient Title Stakes (G1).

Completing Sheikh Mohammed’s line-up is Mastery in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon while Buzzword runs in the Juvenile Turf and Vale of York in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
