Godolphin trades Telperion to NZ

Gerry Harvey has purchased a significant interest in Godolphin’s stakes-winning homebred Telperion.

The son of Street Cry will join the line-up at Harvey’s Westbury Stud in New Zealand.

Telperion ran third on debut at Rosehill as an early-season juvenile behind champion filly Yankee Rose.  Demonstrating his enormous talent when next presented at the races, he unleashed a powerful burst to win the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) from subsequent Group 1 winner Prized Icon.

He was an unlucky fourth in the G1 Golden Slipper and followed up with another placing behind Yankee Rose in the G1 Sydney Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick.

Telperion was equal-fifth in Timeform’s 2YO ratings with only Exquisite Choice, Capitalist, Yankee Rose & Kiss and Make Up ranked above him in 2015-16.

He is out of Redoute’s Choice mare Yavanna and second-dam Wild Queen was a Group 3 winning half-sister to G2 Ascot Vale Stakes winner So Gorgeous.  It’s the esteemed family of great matriarch Denise’s Joy.

The cross between Street Cry and Redoute’s Choice has been a notable one with 8 stakes performers from 20 starters including Group 1 winner Stay With Me and, of course, Telperion.

Westbury Stud will stand Telperion for a fee of $5,000 (plus gst).
