God’s Own deluge in December

Redoute’s Choice stallion God’s Own finished the calendar year with a deluge of winners in December.

He sired the winners of 17 races last month after Canonized (Bendigo) and San Jose (Gosford) completed an interstate double on New Year’s Eve.

God’s Own was a Group 1 winner of the 2005 Caulfield Guineas and stands at Eliza Park in association with Yallambee Stud.  Contract Racing sprinter Utah Saints is his leading money-spinner and two more promising gallopers emerged from his first crop last month.

Brisbane based gelding Sons Of God won first-up in Eagle Farm on December 7 and he’s a live chance for the Magic Millions Country Cup in a fortnight.

Down south, Lady Rum Dum maintained her unbeaten record in the Channel 7 Ron Casey Memorial at Mornington on December 27.

Lady Rum Dum (4m God’s Own – Lyford by Royal Academy) is from a half-sister to G1 VRC Newmarket Hcp winner Toledo.  She was catalogued for the 2009 Magic Millions HIT Sale but was retained by breeders Geoff and Richard Webb after failing to reach a $65,000 reserve.

“She was impressive winning at Donald back in July,” trainer Jason Warren recalled.  “It was a pretty humble start but we knew she had ability.

“Then she came back and won two in a row here at Mornington.  She was back towards the rear in the early stages last week and had to circle the field on the home turn.

“Michelle (Payne) asked her to shift up a gear and she answered the challenge to win running away,” Warren added.  “The God’s Own gallopers take time but that’s not a problem with Lady Rum Dum.  She has a bright future ahead.”

The latest crop of God’s Own yearlings are entered for the 2012 majors starting with a half sister to G1 AJC Epsom Hcp winner Rock Kingdom at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.  The filly from Happy Empress (St Covet) is catalogued as Lot 15 as part of the Musk Creek consignment.

God’s Own has a half-dozen lots at the Inglis Classic and Melbourne Premier Sales.  There are another 11 catalogued for the Magic Millions Sale in Adelaide, Perth and Tasmania.
