Zizou sired his first feature winner when Pitstop claimed the G2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe in Singapore on Friday evening.
Pitstop (2g Zizou – Pottinger by Al Hareb) is raced and trained by Steven Burridge. It was a rich pay-day for the expat Aussie as the race carried a purse of $325,000 and a bonus of $135,000. “We decided to ride him quiet and have the last crack at them,” Burridge said. “He’s only small but he’s a bulldog.”
Pitstop is fully qualified for the bonus as he is a $21,000 graduate from the 2011 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast. He was resold for $100,000 at the Magic Millions National HIT Sale last October.
Zizou stands at Turangga Farm after a 14 start career that began with a Listed victory in the VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington. He followed up with seconds to Shrewd Rhythm (G3 Blue Diamond Prelude), Sleek Chassis (G1 Blue Diamond), Meurice (G2 Todman Slipper) and Forensics (G1 Golden Slipper).
Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus) is out of a half-sister to leading Arrowfield sire Not A Single Doubt. The family also features Australian champion sire Snippets. Turangga owner Stuart Ramsey stood Zizou for an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee last year.
