Goldikova bettered the mark of 10 Group 1 wins of the great Miesque when she added the G1 Prix de la Foret to her record at at Longchamp on Sunday.
Trainer Freddie Head, who rode Miesque, indicated Goldikova is on-course to extend the record to 12 Group 1 wins in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs on November 6. She has won the BC Mile for the last two years.
“She’s great — extraordinary, what can you say?,” Head said. “I was very scared about the going but she is fantastic. She is just one of those great racehorses that come around so rarely, and I am so lucky to be the one who trains her.”
Goldikova was coming off a loss to Makfi (Dubawi) in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois but she allayed any fears in the slow going by sprinting straight to the front. Regal Parade (Pivotal) ranged up to the champion mare at the 400m mark but jockey Olivier Peslier sat tight. When he pushed the button, she duly went through the gears with the minimum of fuss.
Goldikova is by deceased Widden shuttler Anabaa from the winning Blushing Groom mare Born Gold. Her dam is a sister to Group 1 mare Gold Splash. Second dam Riviere d’Or (Lyphard) was a Group 1 winner and her third dam Gold River (Riverman) captured the 1981 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
