Gone West is suffering from declining fertility and will be pensioned at the end of the current North American breeding season. The 25-year-old Mr. Prospector horse had just 5 mares in foal from his first 27 covers earlier this year.
“Regretfully, Gone West’s fertility has diminished drastically,” said Headley Bell, managing partner of Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington. “We are going to finish up this year and then retire him. He has left his mark on the breed and it has been an honor to be associated with him all these years.”
Gone West has sired 98 stakes winners and they include Zafonic, Da Hoss, Johar, Grand Slam, Commendable, Mr. Greeley, Elusive Quality and leading French sire Zamindar.
His sire sons in Australia include Pembroke (Qld), Mugharreb (SA), Promontory Gold (Vic), Victory Drive (WA) and Grenville Stud based Partners Choice and West Quest (Tas).
