Merlo Downs sire El Nino was represented by his fourth winner in North America this week.
The USA freshman hit the board again when his colt Good Harbour won by more than five lengths over 1300m at Calder.
Good Harbour (2c El Nino – Makewayforwendy by Way West) is trained by Kirk Ziadie and comes from a winning Florida family. His dam is a close relation of LR Calder Oaks winner Tiger Belle (Tiger Ridge).
El Nino won three sprints in Kentucky and was also G2 placed in the Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga. Champion sire Storm Cat got him from a half-sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Boston Harbor (Capote).
His firs crop leader has been west coast youngster Senor Rain. He won at Santa Anita and Del Mar and was then stakes placed in the Afflerbaugh Stakes at Fairplex Park and Indiana Futurity at Hoosier Park.
El Nino is currently serving his first southern mares at Merlo Downs in Rockhampton for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee. Studmaster Jeff Marlow stands him with Changeintheweather (Gone West) and Savabeel’s half-brother Garrison Savannah (Danehill).
