Green light for Gonski in Australia

The Bryan Guy-trained colt Rare Find gave Gonski his first Australian winner with a two-length victory in the Bet at ITC Tattsbet Maiden (800m) at Ipswich on Friday.

Rare Find (2c Gonski – Rare Prospect by Shinko Forest) zoomed home to defeat Ultrazonal (Falvelon) and Tycoon Cougar (Tycoon Ruler).  The Darley sire had already been in the frame across the Tasman after Czechout Girl saluted at Te Rapa in November.

Bred by Bill Duncan Bloodstock, Rare Find was a $32,000 graduate of the Gold Coast Magic Millions last year.  After the Ipswich winner, his dam Rare Prospect foaled a filly by Sequalo and a colt by Publishing.  The mare is out of a winning half-sister to Monmouth Park stakes winner Judge Connelly.

Gonski (Danehill) was bred by Swettenham Stud and was a comprehensive Rosehill winner as a December juvenile.

At three, he ran Jet Spur to a half-length when racing second-up at Rosehill after a ten month spell.  Trainer Tim Martin sent Gonski to Melbourne and a fortnight later he defeated Perfectly Ready in the Listed Concept Sports Stakes at Flemington.

Retired after just 8 starts, he stands at Darley’s Northwood Park base in Victoria for a $6,600 fee.

Gonski has two yearlings on offer at the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  Swettenham Stud has a colt from Euclase mare Zip You Up (Lot 675) that hails from the family of G1 AJC Oaks winner Wild Iris.

Shady Lane’s filly from Kampala mare Allez (Lot 677) received a significant pedigree update on New Year’s Day when her close relation Canali (Exceed And Excel) was a Listed winner of the Summer Scorcher in Perth.
