Australian bred colt Gimmethegreenlight can make amends for an unlucky last-start loss when he fronts up in the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes on July 30.
Gimmethegreenlight is a son of Vinery champion More Than Ready and trainer Justin Snaith will seek permission from stewards to have his youngster loaded last when returning to action on Saturday week.
The South African star was kept waiting and became restless before the start of the G1 Golden Horseshoe on July 2. He walked out of the gates and was spotting the leaders 10 lengths into the straight on the Durban July programme.
Gimmethegreenlight (2c More Than Ready – Yes She Can Cancan by Canny Lad) motored home in the straight to finish fourth behind Aussie bred colt Fighting Warrior (Magic Albert) and he will appreciate the extra furlong of the Premier’s Champion Stakes.
Australian and NZ bred two year-olds have enjoyed a winning run in the race going back to 1997 with Rarotonga Treaty (Geiger Counter).
Tytola (Last Tycoon) was successful in 2000 and he was followed by Suntagonal (Octagonal) in 2002. NZ bred colt Gold Onyx (Black Minnaloushe) scored a scintillating victory in the race 12 months ago.
Gimmethegreenlight made $155,000 at 2009 Magic Millions National Foal Sale. Snaith trains him for leading owner Hassen Adams and the colt won his first four starts in a row including the Listed Somerset Plate in Cape Town.
