The dogs were barking Ripper Farooq at Northam on Sunday and punters lowered the boom on bookies with enough support to see him firm into a $1.40 favourite for the Western Racepix Maiden (1100m).
The Geisel Park homebred is a standout grey and he settled in the box-seat behind the leaders Favourite Songs (Shalaa) and Sansanee (Bondi) before letting down to street the field under Willie Pike.
“Ripper Farooq has smashed them in the Avon Valley!” trainer Luke Fernie claimed. “Good to see the horse go as well as he is named,” Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg replied. “Reckon we’re going to have plenty of fun with Ripper.”
Thrown in at the deep end during his initial 2yo prep in April, Ripper Farooq responded with a juvenile black-type placing in the LR Perth Stakes (1100m) behind Bustling (Frosted) and Sir Dreamalot (A Lot).
He’s set for a return to better company this time in with nominations for the LR Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) on November 16 and G2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 23.
Ripper Farooq is from the third and final book covered by Vert De Grece (Verglas) at Geisel Park in 2020. An Irish-bred Group 1 winner of the Criterium International (1600m) at Saint-Cloud, he subsequently transferred to Brisbane Meadows in the NSW Southern Highlands.
He sired Ripper Farooq from Promiscuous Miss (Oratorio) who is a full-sister to G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) winner Motion Pictures. She made $7,000 straight off the track at the 2019 Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale and her Playing God colt added another zero when Geisel Park sold him to Neville Parnham for $70,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.
Promiscuous Miss has a yearling filly by Awesome Rock and was served on a late cover to Geisel Park sire Aysar (Deep Field) last November.
Aysar ($8,800) stands at Geisel Park alongside Winning Rupert ($8,800), Manhattan Rain ($8,250) and All American ($4,400). All fees (inc GST). For bookings or further information, contact stud manager Conor Dunlop on 0447 434 735.
