The 2012 Perth Magic Millions received another fillip on Friday when Captain Obvious won the Al Naboodah Construction Group Hcp (1200m) at Meydan.
Singapore based Captain Obvious held off several closers to win by three parts of a length from Hitchens (Acclamation). The runner-up had been placed in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket last summer.
Captain Obvious (7g Verglas – Shathor by Highest Honor) was sold for just $24,000 from the Alwyn Park draft at the 2007 Perth Magic Millions. The speedy grey galloper had won 13 times in 21 starts in Malaysia and Singapore before trainer Steven Burridge sent him on a ground-breaking trip to the Gulf.
Alwyn Park studmaster John Andrew has a Citidancer half-brother to Captain Obvious catalogued as Lot 30 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions. Their dam Shathor is an unraced half-sister to Umah (Umatilla) who was a G1 winner of the 1996 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot.
Burridge had already won in the Gulf with Dark Matter (Stratum) on January 12 and he will saddle up Ip Man (Mr Nancho) at Meydan on Saturday night. The NZ bred gelding has been entered for Race 7, the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group Hcp (1600m).
