This week’s Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale drew the curtain on an momentous Easter auction at Riverside Stables.

The new venue saw $163.75 million worth of yearlings, weanlings, racing and breeding stock sell between April 9 and 17.

Sheamus Mills Bloodstock bought the most expensive mare in foal to Star Turn during the Broodmare Sale. The Vinery newcomer’s initial book included NZ-bred Miss Beals who made $180,000. “Some sales just work out,” Mills said. “She’s an outstanding type and I’m super confident in the purchase.”

Boomer Bloodstock took home two mares on behalf of Daandine Stud with Snitzel’s 4yo daughter Wilcannia topping the final session at $170,000. She won a Wyong juvenile for Gai Waterhouse and is in foal first-up to Artie Schiller.

“She was our main target so we are delighted to be taking her home,” Boomer’s Craig Rounsefell said. “She looks an ideal mare for the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist who was bred by Daandine.”

Bill Mitchell paid $160,000 for Nudierudie (Encosta de Lago), a winner at Caulfield & Canterbury for Team Hawkes before a maiden cover at Twin Hills last year. She’s in foal to Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Bobby’s Kitten.

Randwick Bloodstock Agency parted with $140,000 for Sepoy mare Windradyne. A half-sister to Champion Irish Sprinter Sole Power, she returned negative to Fastnet Rock last year.

Belmont Bloodstock filled out orders for 15 lots with Coolmore Stud’s Mae Jinx (NZ) on top at $100,000. By Stravinsky, she won a South Island stakes race and is in foal to Pride Of Dubai.

Inglis reported turnover of $10.79 million for 326 fillies and mares at $33,133 to conclude the ground-breaking sales at Riverside. The average was down 27% and the clearance rate also dropped 10 points to 77%.
