Coolmore champion Montjeu posted a G1 double at Woodbine on Sunday with class mares Sarah Lynx and Miss Keller.
Sarah Lynx (4f Montjeu – Steel Princess by Danehill) was the only female in the Canadian International and produced the best run of her career to surge home late for a four length victory over Joshua Tree (Montjeu) and Treasure Beach (Galileo).
The Irish-bred mare is the first female to win the Canadian International (2400m) since Infamy in 1988. She is trained by John Hammond and was a 60,000 guineas buy at the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale
.
Sarah Lynx has automatically qualified for the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on November 5. She is the only winner to date for Danehill mare Steel Princess who was a G3 winner of the 2004 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud.
Montjeu doubled up at the highest level in Canada when Miss Keller saluted in the E.P Taylor Stakes (2000m) from I’m A Dreamer (Noverre) and Dream Peace (Dansili).
Miss Keller (5m Montjeu – Ingozi by Warning) is owned in partnership by Three Chimneys Racing and she was runner-up to French mare Reggane (Red Ransom) in the same race last year.
“This is her last race for me and I am so proud to finally win the E P Taylor,” champion trainer Roger Attard said. “She is going back to be sold as a broodmare in England.”
Miss Keller and Sarah Linx bring Montjeu’s tally of global Group 1 winners to 24. Among them are his southern hemisphere bred gallopers Lord Tavistock, Nom Du Jeu, Roman Emperor, Sharvasti, Speed Gifted and Wall Street.
