Darley freshman Domesday celebrated his first Group 1 winner on Saturday when Pressday landed the TJ Smith Stakes at Eagle Farm.  

The Chris Waller trained colt charged home from the rear of the field to score by over a length.  Waller and jockey Nash Rawiller hailed the youngster as a star in the making.  “He’s going to be a serious horse in six months,” Waller predicted.  “He is an exceptional colt,” Rawiller added after partnering the colt to a breathtaking victory on Stradbroke day.

Pressday (2c Domesday – Kaaptive Empress by Kaaptive Edition) won his maiden at Randwick in February and blossomed in Brisbane winning the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doomben and G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce at eagle Farm prior to the T J Smith.

“He gave them all a good start and he’s a very promising horse,” Waller claimed.  “To get this far is quite amazing after just a two-week spell off a Golden Slipper campaign.  He is right up there with the best horses and he will only improve further.”

Pressday sold for $38,000 at the 2009 Inglis Classic yearling sale from the Glenarvon Park draft.  His dam Kaaptive Empress was a Randwick winner and she a half-sister to the dam of G1 Kiwi mare The Mighty Lions.  She has a yearling filly by Oratorio (Ire) and a filly foal by Librettist.

Domesday has the best winners-to-runners strike rate among Australia’s freshman sires this season.  He has been represented by four stakes horses to date, the others being G1-placed filly Divorces, Exchanges and Domesky.

Domesday was a high class juvenile winning the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes in a career that spanned just eight starts.  He is a son of Red Ransom and hails from the influential stallion making family of Redoute’s Choice, Umatilla, Hurricane Sky, Al Maher and Spinning World.

Domesday is to stand the forthcoming season at Darley’s Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 (inc gst).
