Group 1 duo top Magic Millions

Group 1 Bloodstock launched the 2019 sale season with stunning results in tandem with Kennewell Racing at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Managing Director Mathew Becker joined Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) last year and is a key member of the team put together by emerging Group 1 trainer Lloyd Kennewell

They topped the Magic Millions on Saturday night with a $1.70 million bid for the I Am Invincible – Oakleigh Girl colt that will be raced by Aquis Farm and Ozzie Kheir.

“It’s a big start with six quality lots purchased,” Becker said. “Without doubt, the highlight was the I Am Invincible colt with Kennewell Racing.”

Kennewell and Becker outbid Godolphin to secure the star colt who was offered by Yarraman Park Stud on behalf of breeder Steve Gillard. His dam Oakleigh Girl (Snitzel) won an LR Ottawa Stakes at Flemington and was runner-up Unencumbered in the 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“We thought he would pass the million but didn’t know where it would stop,” Kennewell said. “He’s the sort of horse who looks ideal for the Magic Millions next year – or races like the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.

“He’s one of the best colts I’ve seen by I Am Invincible and hopefully we can get the right results.”

Kennewell and Group 1 Bloodstock also bought another colt by I Am Invincible (Lot 187) that will be raced by Ron Dufficy plus a colt by Street Boss (Lot 1037) for a total of $230,000. Their fillies by I Am Invincible (Lot 72), Reliable Man (Lot 619) and Choisir (Lot 222) cost a combined $580,000.

Becker grew up at Toolern Vale north of Melbourne where his father Mike operated Independent Stallion Station. He gathered valuable experience with John Hawkes, Pat Carey and David Hall and also travelled abroad to complete a season at the Aga Khan’s stud in Ireland.

He returned to Victoria and established Group 1 Bloodstock in 2015

Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) was formed in 1988 to maintain, improve and develop the standards, status and services of bloodstock agents throughout Australia. Its members operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism and are bound by the strict Industry Code of Conduct.
