Group 1 farewell for Southern Lord

Southern Lord will transfer off-shore after a winning farewell in New Zealand on Friday.  The Matamata based galloper will leave Alan Tait’s stables to join Mark Walker in Singapore after a G1 triumph in the Levin Classic (1600m).

Tait and his wife Galene purchased Southern Lord for $125,000 from Bellagio Lodge at the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.  He is the first foal from a stakes performed half sister to WA based black-type galloper Simplyirresistable.

Southern Lord (3g Stratum – Angel Girl by Rory’s Jester) had only one runner behind him when approaching the turn in the Levin Classic.  After balancing up in the straight, he accelerated brilliantly to reel in the leaders for a half length victory over Le Choix and Soriano.

Southern Lord is the third Group 1 winner for Golden Slipper winner Stratum.  His dam Angel Girl has a Red Dazzler filly entered for the 2013 Gold Coast QTIS Yearling Sale in March.
