Coolmore and Inglis dominated Group 1 William Reid Stakes on Saturday when Turffontein defeated Wanted at Moonee Valley.

Turffontein (Johannesburg) landed his second G1 triumph for trainer Anthony Cummings after breaking through at the elite level in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield in September.  He was sold by Fulmen Park for $70,000 at the 2006 Inglis Melbourne Premier sale.

Johannesburg shuttled to Coolmore Australia for five years from 2003 to 2007.  He was sold to the Shizunai Stallion Station in Hokkaido last year.  Blue Gum Farm will offer a Churchill Downs half-sister to Turffontein as Lot 432 at the upcoming Inglis Premier Sale at Oaklands Junction.

Wanted (Fastnet Rock) was as game as ever finishing second for the third time in a G1 sprint this season.  He had been runner-up to All Silent in the VRC Patinack Farm Stakes and to Nicconi in the G1 VRC Lightning Stakes.

Wanted was an $800,000 buy for Eddie Hayson at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  His sire Fastnet Rock is the new trendsetter on the Coolmore roster and he was a late addition to their northern hemisphere line-up in Ireland this year.  

The Inglis Premier is now the source of 25 stakes wins in Australia this season, with the tally headed by Turffontein and Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner (Choisir), not to mention champion Hong Kong sprinter Sacred Kingdom (Encosta de Lago).

The 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale will be held from March 1-4.  The Oaklands sale ring was also the source of several other stakes winners over the weekend.  Octagonal filly Warm Love won the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville.  She was a $9,000 graduate from the 2008 Great Southern weanling sale.

Flying Spur filly Georgette Silk was a dominant winner of the Listed Widden Stakes at Randwick.  The Clarry Conners trained filly was a $730,000 buy at the 2009 Easter yearling sale.

Flying Spur notched another black-type winner at Randwick when Alverta motored home to win the G2 Breeders Classic.  The Paul Messara trained mare had already won three Listed events sporting the Arrowfield colours.  Would-be buyers missed out on a bargain when she was passed-in for $20,000 at the 2005 Easter yearling sale.
