Half Hennessy put down at Riverdene Stud

Half Hennessy has died after sustaining a fractured leg in a paddock accident at Riverdene Stud in NSW.  He was based at Kevin Pendergast’s Wagga property for five seasons and had covered 550 mares at an $8,800 (inc gst) service fee.

Half Hennessy (Hennessy) was bred by Dr Jack Wooldridge and was among the best of his generation as a two and three year-old.  He was part-owned and trained by Bede Murray to win the G3 Illawarra Classic at Kembla Grange and at his next two starts was beaten a short-head and a short head at Randwick.

Connections protested unsuccessfully against Pillaging in the Heroic Championship and then he split Victory Vein and Choisir in the G1 Champagne Stakes.

Half Hennessy returned at three to win the G3 Ming Dynasty Quality at Randwick and later in the season he grabbed a G2 in the Grand Prix Stakes and a career-high G1 in the Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm.

His oldest progeny are new-season 4YOs and, to date, he has sired 15 winners from 77 starters.  The best of them has been Lavished, a Murray trained filly who was a long-priced winner at Kembla and Rosehill last year.
