Hansel and Union Rags head USA Free Hcp

Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Hansen has topped the 2011 USA 2yo Free Hcp alongside G1 Champagne Stakes winner Union Rags.  

They were both give high-weight ratings of 126 even though Hansen defeated Union Rags in the Breeders’ Cup.  The Tapit colt returned this tern to finish second in the G3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park on January 29.

Hansen won all three of his starts last year by a combined margin of 25 lengths.  He is a homebred for Kentucky breeder Dr. Kendall Hansen.

Union Rags (Dixie Union) won the G2 Saratoga Special Stakes before rising to G1 level in the Champagne Stakes.  He was bred in Kentucky by Phyllis Wyeth and is owned by Chadds Ford Stable.

My Miss Aurelia (Smart Strike) topped the fillies at 124 for Stonestreet Thoroughbreds.  She was unbeaten in four starts including the G1 Frizette Stakes and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Indian Charlie’s progeny led the list of colts and geldings with four representatives ahead of Bluegrass Cat, City Zip, Giant’s Causeway, High Cotton, Kitten’s Joy, Scat Daddy, Wildcat Heir and With Distinction with three each.

Hard Spun, Kitten’s Joy and Lion Heart headed the fillies list with four representatives each.   Of the 224 juveniles weighted, 150 were bred in Kentucky, 33 in Florida, 7 in California, and 6 in New York.
