Hasani wins for Wyadup Valley

Time will tell the true depth of the field that Hasani defeated to break his maiden in the Lawn Pride Australia Hcp (1300m) on Wednesday

He’s a homebred from Wyadup Valley Farm and that alone gives him a leg up leading into a staying career for Trevor and Terrie Delroy.  They’ve raced and/or bred Group 1 classic winners like Helenus (Victoria Derby, Caulfield Guineas, Rosehill Guineas), Ethiopia (ATC Australian Derby), Gondokoro (Queensland Oaks) and Zabeelionaire (SA Derby).

Hasani was always travelling like a winner at his third start although the margins of a short-neck and a head to Fine Star (Fierce Impact) and Saam Time Lucky (Toronado) would indicate it wasn’t stroll at Belmont Park.  “He was handful last week and was happy within himself with the winkers on today,” co-trainer Grant Williams said.  “He switched on but is still learning the trade.  He’s getting better and better and will work it out in time.”

The 3yo colt also gave Lucy Fiore her first winner back home after finishing third with her husband Brandon in the Mongol Derby.  It’s the world’s toughest horse race pitting mental and physical strength across 1,000 kilometres through Mongolia on the backs of semi-tame horses.

“He’s strong but still raw and there’s plenty improvement to come,” Fiore reported.  “He jumped and I was confident in the run.  He loomed up a bit early before putting them away pretty well.  And he should get further the way he shot away again on the line.”

The Delroys bred him using Dundeel (NZ) over Premardal (Shamardal) who was an Ascot Listed winner of a Jungle Dawn Classic (twice) and Starstruck Classic.  Second-dam Prestigious (Rainbow Quest) is a three-quarter-sister to 1991 European Horse of the Year Arazi (Blushing Groom).  They’ve supported Dundeel (High Chaparral) from the outset going back to their 2019 Victoria Derby Trial (1800m) winner Cetshwayo.

Hasani was passed-in at last year’s Perth Magic Millions but the Wyadup Valley Farm draft did include a Dundeel – Naivasha (Starcraft) colt that was purchased by McKeever Bloodstock for $250,000.  Named Ulundi, he’s now an unraced 3yo with Pat Carey and Harris Walker at Mornington.
