Boom sprinter Hay List is bang on target for the G3 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley this Saturday after an impressive exhibition gallop at Wyong last Friday.

The John McNair-trained star was responsible for a brilliant trial going the Melbourne direction on Wyong Gold Cup day.  “It was probably the best piece of work I have ridden him in,” jockey Glyn Schofield beamed.  “He’s an exciting horse and I really think he’s got it all before him.”

Hay List (5g Statue Of Liberty – Sing Hallelujah by Is It True) began his career in Perth winning 8 from 8 before pulling up lame in the G3 Colonel Reeves at Ascot last November.  

He was originally prepared by Jim Taylor before transferring to McNair who is based at Gosford.  He ran second to Love Conquers All in the Listed June Stakes at Randwick and followed up with an electrifying victory in the G3 Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm.

The Perth flyer won by five lengths and clocked a new race record of 1.08.69s for 1200m.  “He could have won by eight,” stand-in jockey Chris Munce claimed.  “I’ve won Group 1 sprints on Spark Of Life and Dance Hero and this bloke has the potential to do the same.”

The strapping 600kg gelding is by Eliza Park stallion Statue Of Liberty from Perth winner Sing Hallelujah.  His sire is a Storm Cat half-brother to Lemon Drop Kid and was a G2 winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Hay List is a homebred for Perth couple Terry and Liz Davenport.  He has an unraced 4YO sister named Golden Statue and an unraced 3YO half-brother by Delzao named Sound Of The Ocean.

Statue Of Liberty is standing at Eliza Park for $17,600 (inc gst) fee this year.  He has sired 55 winners of 104 races in Australia at a 58% strike-rate.  The best of them to date has been Mic Mac who was a G2 winner of the MRC Memsie Stakes and STC Hobartville Stakes in 2009.

Mic Mac was last seen finishing third, beaten a nose and a long head, by Black Piranha and Melito in the G1 Stradbroke Hcp on June 12.
