David Hayes struck again on Day 3 of the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale when spending 210,000 guineas for Listed winner Goldoni.
Goldoni is a three year-old gelding by Coolmore Stud sire Dylan Thomas and was a Listed winner of the Minstrell Recruitment Stand Cup (2400m) at Chester in September.
Blandford Bloodstock’s Stuart Boman bought the gelding on behalf of Hayes after seeing off National Hunt trainer Donald McCain on Wednesday. “His Listed win means that he is qualified for the Melbourne Cup and hopefully he will go onto to be a Cup horse for David,” Boman said. “He had the speed to win over 1400m as a two-year-old and has got 2400m at three. He is not ground dependent, either.”
Hayes had paid 200,000 guineas for Motivado (Motivator) on Tuesday. The four-year-old was part of the consignment from Sir Mark Prescott’s Heath House Stables and was fourth home in both the Cesarewitch and the Ebor this summer.
Boman also bought Juddmonte Farms five year-old Jet Away (Cape Cross) for 200,000 guineas on Wednesday. “He’s bound for Australia,” Bowman revealed. “He is definitely qualified for the Cups so it makes a lot of sense. He’s lightly raced, likes fast ground and also has a stallion’s pedigree.”
Day 3 of the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale saw 275 lots sell for 7.30 million guineas. The average was up 12% to 26,548 guineas and a median rose 41% to 13,000 guineas. The clearance rate was a sky-high 92%.
Three-year-old colt Saigon (Royal Applause) topped trade at 340,000 guineas. He was offered from James Toller’s Eve Lodge Stables and was knocked down to Anthony Stroud. “He is going to Dubai, and has the right profile,” said Stroud. “He’s a very nice horse and James has done very well with him.”
Two-year-old filly Seolan (Alhaarth) was second on the leader-board at 320,000 guineas. Unbeaten after two starts this term, she was bought by Californian trainer Jim Cassidy. “We might look to run her in the Miesque Stakes at the end of November,” Cassidy said. “We had chatted about whether any of our purchases could run off the plane, and she would be the one.”
The Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale continues on Thursday, November 1.
