Helike filly starts career-best day for Brutons

Trainers Dave and Scott Bruton prepared six winners at the Hobart meeting on Tuesday starting with promising Helike filly Lost Island.

The Seven Mile Beach conditioners continued a career-best day with Derailleur (Umatilla), Rialto John (Savoire Vivre), Banca Mo (Tough Speed), Prevailing (Secret Savings) and King Kalakaua (Tale Of The Cat).

Lost Island (3f Helike – Echarpe by Weasel Clause) came off an impressive trial win to score by three lengths on debut.  “That was a very pleasing effort,” Scott Brunton declared after the AAMI Hobart Cup 12/2 Maiden (1100m).  “We expect her to make the grade further down the track.”

Lost Island is raced by Rick and Tina Polley in partnership with Michael Kent, Rodney Campbell and Julie Brunton.  She was an $18,000 buy out of the Armidale Stud draft at the 2010 Tasmanian Magic Millions.

Her dam Echarpe has foaled five winners headed by Forbidden Quest (West Quest) who has won 10 races in Tasmania and another at Sandown Hillside.

Echarpe is a half-sister to the dam of Armidale bred millionaire Lady Lynette.  The Ladoni mare has won 13 races for the Brunton family headed by a G2 victory in the Blazer Stakes at Flemington and two editions of the G3 Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Lost Island is from the first crop of Armidale Stud’s Rahy sire Helike (USA).  The John Keys trained filly Sudden Glory opened his account in November and, to date, 7 of his 8 starters have been placed.

Helike won twice at Saint-Cloud and his dam East of the Moon is a G1 winning half-sister to champion sire Kingmambo (Mr Prospector).

Armidale has catalogued three Helike yearlings for sale at the Tasmanian Magic Millions on February 21 and the colt from Salcome is the first of the trio to parade as Lot 2.  His dam is a half-sister to dual G2 MVRC Waterford Crystal Mile winner Weasel Will.
