Heritage Hero at Belmont

Hay Street Hero was an omen tip in the TAB Ozbet Hcp at Belmont on Wednesday.

The Heritage gelding gave apprentice Arron Mitchell a winner at his first race ride.  Mitchell has a rich racing heritage of his own being a grandson of Ascot trainer Wally Mitchell.

Hay Street Hero (4g Heritage – Sayer Road by Euclase) had won three races during the Avon Valley season at Northam last year and he led all the way for a surprise victory at Belmont.  “I thought he may have needed the run,” trainer Kellie Grantham said.  “He was underdone but Arron rated him perfectly in front.”

Yarradale Stud sire Heritage is the only son of Flying Spur standing in Western Australia.  His dam is a sister to Northerly and he will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee in 2012.

Hay Street Hero is one of three winners for Melbourne winner Sayer Road.  The mare was also runner-up to My Sienna at G2 level in the 1999 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington.  Her latest foal is a filly by Yarradale sire Discorsi.
