Racing hailed a new superstar when Galileo colt Frankel delivered a world-class display in the English 2000 Guineas on Saturday.

The Juddmonte colt overshadowed all else on including Galileo’s Australian bred filly Igugu who created history of her own in South Africa.

Igugu (3f Galileo – Zarinia by Intikhab) coasted home in the G2 SA Oaks at Turffontein to became the first filly to complete the Triple Tiara.  She had won the first two legs just as easily in the G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas and G1 SA Fillies Classic.

Igugu quickly put the result beyond doubt when sent about her business in the straight on Saturday.  The official margin was just short of six lengths although it could easily have been more had Anthony Delpech called on her to really stretch out.

Trainer Mike de Kock said the G1 Durban July now beckons and an international campaign is also very much on the cards in due course.

Igugu was purchased for $65,000 at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier and was resold later that year for R1,000,000 at the Emperors Palace Ready-to-Run Sale.  She is raced in partnership by Summerhill Stud owner Mick Goss with Andre Macdonald, Rodney Thorpe and Roger Zeeman.  

Igugu is the second Australian bred Group 1 winner in South Africa by Coolmore sire Galileo.  Her stablemate Mahbooba won the Golden Slipper at Greyville and she travelled to the Gulf this year for a Listed victory in the UAE 1000 Guineas.

Igugu will be an integral member of De Kock’s Dubai team in 2012.
