HK Derby completes amazing weekend for Coolmore

Danehill Dancer continued an amazing winning weekend for Coolmore Stud when he sired the G1 Hong Kong Derby quinella at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Bred and sold by Baramul Stud for $340,000 at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Super Satin was ridden off the speed by champion jockey Douglas Whyte before steaming home to beat Super Pistachio by a head.

A one-time Adelaide based galloper, Super Satin was purchased as a yearling the late Ivan Allan for owner Ranjan Mahtani.  “I’ve stuck by him the whole way and he’s really let down and produced the goods on the big day,” Whyte said.  “He was only running 2000 metres for the first time so I had to bide my time and not hit the front too early.”

Super Satin was originally trained by Phillip Stokes and was a Morphettville maiden winner after being nosed out on debut by subsequent stakes winner Catapulted.

Sunday’s Group 1 takes Danehill Dancer’s stakes winning tally to 105.  He got the HK Derby winner from British bred mare Mantles Princess who is from the family of Australasian shuttlers Johan Cruyff and Spartacus.

Coolmore Stud enjoyed a record breaking winning streak on Saturday.  Their stallions sired winners of the G1 Australian Cup (Zipping by Danehill), G1 Australian Guineas (Rock Classic by Fastnet Rock), G1 NZ Diamond Stakes (Banchee by Oratorio), G1 Randwick Guineas (Shoot Out by High Chaparral), G2 Challenge Stakes (De Lightning Ridge by Tale Of The Cat), G2 Blamey Stakes (Lord Tavistock by Montjeu) and G3 Skyline Stakes (Hinchinbrook by Fastnet Rock).

Danehill Dancer was one of three Coolmore residents to sire Listed winners on Saturday when The Mikado won the AJC Strada Stakes.  The others were Choisir (Sacred Choice – AJC Aspirational Quality) and High Chaparral (Chaparella – NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes).
