Hollowlea will head to the G1 Caulfield Guineas after scoring at stakes level for the second time this month at Moonee Valley on Friday.
The Wimmera based gelding won the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 4 and doubled up in the G2 Bill Stutt Stakes on Friday night.
Hollowlea (3g Hidden Dragon-Cabaret Girl by Scenic) firmed into $17 for the Group 1 feature on October 9. Toorak Toff is the pre-post favourite at $4.60, followed by $5 Ilovethiscity, $8 Anacheeva, $9 Rekindled Interest, $12 Skilled, Masquerader & Kudakulari and $17 Hollowlea.
Trainer Terry O’Sullivan praised Blake Shinn for an excellent rails ride at the Valley. “He got that lovely run and he never left the fence. I thought it was a bit tight when they first straightened up, but he found the hole and charged through.”
Hollowlea is another bargain stakes winner purchased from the Magic Millions by Kingsley Peach. He parted with $36,000 for the youngster from Robyn Wise’s draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.
Hollowlea is a half-brother to the Made of Gold mare Dance Girl Dance who has won 7 races and been twice stakes placed in Brisbane. Their dam is a full sister to Caulfield stakes winner Panorama Heights.
Hidden Dragon is represented by five lots at the Magic Millions 2YO HIT Sale in October. He topped Day 2 at last year’s HIT Sale when Singapore trainer Don Baertschiger paid $110,000 for his colt from Donnatelle.
Hidden Dragon (Danehill) was a G3 winner in Hong Kong and had the distinction of running Silent Witness to less than a length when finishing runner-up to the champion during his 17 race winning streak. He stands at Lyndhurst Stud in Queensland for a $13,200 service fee.
