Champion filly Snow Fairy produced a spellbinding turn of foot to cut down her rivals in the Hong Kong Cup on Sunday.  It was a fairytale finish to a wonderful year for the Ed Dunlop trained filly.

Snow Fairy (3f Intikhab – Woodland Dream by Charnwood Forest) had won the English – Irish Oaks double in June – July and added the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kyoto on her way to Hong Kong.

Sunday’s triumph echoed Dunlop’s victory with his all-time great mare Ouija Board in the 2005 Hong Kong Vase.

“I thought she had no chance when we were turning in but she quickened up so well,” winning jockey Ryan Moore said.  .”She’s got a marvellous turn of foot and is very special.  She’s a machine.”

Snow Fairy is bred to struggle past a mile but she handled the 2400m of the Oaks and the 2000m of the HK Cup with ease.  She is raced by owner-breeder Cristina Patino under the banner of Windflower Overseas Holdings.  The filly was catalogued for the 2008 Tattersalls Ireland December Sale but was passed-in when bidding stopped at 1,800 euros!

Her sire Intikhab is a son of Red Ransom (Roberto) and her dam Woodland Dream only won up to 1400m.  She is a half-sister to successful young sire Big Bad Bob who was a stakes winner at Ascot, Deauville and Baden-Baden.
