Hong Kong hails Kiwi Flash

NZ bred gelding Beauty Flash completed a hat-trick of Group 1 wins with a commanding victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Beauty Flash (5g Golan – Wychwood Rose by Volksraad) is racing in sublime form for the owner – trainer combination of Kwok Siu Ming and Tony Cruz.  His earlier elite collects came in the Hong Kong Mile and Hong Kong Stewards Cup.

Cruz was delighted with the win and is now looking forward to the US$5 million G1 Dubai Duty Free on March 26.  “The 1800 metres will suit him perfectly.  And I’m not worried about racing left-handed because he was foaled in New Zealand and raced that way every time before he came to Hong Kong.”

Beauty Flash was sold for $65,000 by Halidon Hill Farm at the 2007 NZB Select yearling sale at Karaka.  He won a Te Rapa maiden in January 2009 and has gone from strength to strength in Hong Kong winning 9 of his 19 starts with earnings the equivalent of NZ$5 million.

Cruz has sent out Russian Pearl, Floral Pegasus and Bullish Luck in previous editions of the Dubai Duty Free but returned home empty-handed every time.

Beauty Flash is by Spectrum sire Golan who left just one other Group 1 horse while shuttling to Windsor Park – Victorian Derby winner Kibbutz.
