Phillip Cafarella has drawn on 20 year’s hands-on experience in the horse industry to set up Equine Haven.
Equine Haven is a new, purpose-built spelling and agistment property set in lush farming country an hour’s drive east of Melbourne.
Cafarella could have just as easily named it Horse Heaven.
Equine Haven comprises 16 half-acre paddocks with a maximum of 10 horses at any one time. That allows the paddocks to be rotated, renovated and rested to ensure horses always have a fresh supply of good quality grazing.
“I’ve been involved and competed with performance horses and three-day eventing in Australia and Europe,” Cafarella said. “I was based in Somerset and worked with Andrew Nicholson. It was a tremendous learning curve travelling around England and France – it’s the eventing capital of the world.”
New Zealand born legend Nicholson won the World Championships at Stockholm in 1990 and a bronze medal at the London Olympics last year.
The advantage of that background and the research in developing a start-of-the-art spelling facility is evident at Equine Haven. Starting with a blank canvas, Cafarella designed and built it from the ground up.
“I looked at more than 10 farms before buying this property,” Cafarella said. “Horse professionals such as vets, farriers and trainers have been very impressed with the setup, functionality and safety.”
Owners and trainers can contact Cafarella on 0419 134 032 for an inspection.
