Studmaster Peter Toole has signed Hualalai for Ducatoon Park in South Australia.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, he won a Kembla Grange juvenile in May 2017 and doubled up at Rosehill a month later. Resuming for a G1 Caulfield Guineas program earlier this season, he finished midfield in a stakes races at Flemington before injury curtailed his career after just 7 starts.
“He switched off nicely, relaxed and was able to finish off strong through the line,” Bott said after the Rosehill victory. “He’s still very raw but there’s a huge amount of ability there. We will take him through his grades and map out a path towards the Guineas.”
Hualalai is by champion sire Street Cry and was a $625,000 buy for Spendthrift Farm at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions. Named after a popular tourist resort in Hawaii, he is from G1 Coolmore Classic winner Aloha (Encosta de Lago).
Second-dam Tennessee Midnight (Danehill) won a LR Ottawa Stakes at Flemington and is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Malaguerra.
Hualalai will stand for an introductory fee of $4,400 (inc gst).
