Coolmore sire Hurricane Run finalised Arqana’s October yearling sale on Thursday with a filly that made 68,000 euros.
Day 4 of the Deauville Sale brought the curtain down on an auction that saw 375 yearlings change hands for 10.32 million euros. The average dropped less than 1% to 27,539 euros. The clearance rate declined five points to 68%.
Sylvain Vidal bought the Hurricane Run filly on behalf of Gerard Augustin-Normand. She is the first foal of the winning Slickly mare Slyta and hails from the family of Hector Protector and Bosra Sham.
Vendors Anna and Etienne Drion also sold 2009 French Derby winner Le Havre to Augustin-Normand. He currently has 117 horses in training in France. “The filly comes from a great maternal family with good crosses all the way through,” Vidal said. “She will make a nice broodmare prospect as well.”
Hurricane Run oldest progeny are three year-olds. He is a son of Montjeu and was a G1 winner of the Arc de Triomphe and the King George.
Arqana president Eric Hoyeau said the overall results were similar to those of last year except for the clearance rate which is at its lowest since 2005. “We have definitely reached our saturation point in terms of numbers,” Hoyeau stated. “But it’s hard because France is the only country where the foal crop has not reduced and that a direct result of the health of our industry.”
