Darley shuttler Iffraaj continued his domination of the juvenile division in Europe this year when Mr Perceptive (Sandown) took his individual winner tally to 23 on Wednesday. Iffraaj is now 8 wins clear of Coolmore resident Holy Roman Emperor.
Updates to the running total of Iffraaj winners are required on a daily basis. Iffraaj fillies Espirita (Deauville) and Askaud (Thirsk) took his tally to 22 individual winners on Sunday and Monday.
Sheikh Ahmed’s Iffraaj colt won his second race at Nottingham on Tuesday and then Mr Perceptive and King David (Vichy) completed a daily double on Wednesday.
Mr Perceptive (2c Iffraaj — Astuti by Waajib) is prepared by premier trainer Richard Hannon and scored an all-the-way victory over 1400m at Sandown on Wednesday evening. His dam is a winning half-sister to stakes winning sprinter The Tatling (Perugino) who is still racing as a 13 year-old.
King David (2c Iffraaj – Azucar by Desert Prince) scored a narrow win in the Prix de Volvic (1400m) at Vichy. He prevailed in a three-way finish from Ve Song (Kingsalsa) and Miss Oratorio (Oratorio). The colt had won at Deauville and Maisons-Laffitte in July for owner Pierre van den Heed.
Iffraaj (Zafonic) is based at Darley’s Kildangan Stud and shuttles to Haunui Farm in New Zealand. He was a Group 2 winner of the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood and Park Stakes at York. He was also beaten a head when runner-up to Les Arcs in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket.
Iffraaj is from a half-sister to Cape Cross and will stand his third southern season at Haunui Farm in 2010 at a $10,000 (+ gst) service fee.
