Iffraaj filly Rosa Coletti helped her sire equal the record for individual winners by a first-season stallion in Europe on Tuesday evening.
Rosa Coletti (2f Iffraaj – Oro Bering by Bering) won the Premio Gavia over 1500m at Varese by more than two lengths from Nayefday (Nayef) and Emy’s Liberty (Statue Of Liberty). The Mario Ciciarelli trained filly had been well-beaten at her only other start at the same North Italian venue in August.
Iffraaj is a runaway winner of the European first-season title for individual winners. He now shares the record with Invincible Spirit on 35 winners. The Haunui Farm shuttler is odds-on to increase his total before the end of the year.
Rosa Coletti is bred to keep improving as she gets over longer trips as a three year-old. Her dam Oro Bering won four races up to 2600m including the Listed Prix Petite Etoile at Saint-Cloud. The mare has already foaled winners by Marju and Desert Prince and her yearling is a colt by Key of Luck.
Rosa Coletti was bred Emanuele Modica but was passed-in for just 7,000 euros at the 2009 Italian yearling sale in Milan.
The Iffraaj flag-bearer this year has been unbeaten colt Wootton Bassett who was a G1 winner of the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at the Arc de Triomphe meeting.
Iffraaj (Zafonic) is based at Darley’s Kildangan Stud and shuttles to Haunui Farm in New Zealand. He was a Group 2 winner at Goodwood and York and is from a half-sister to champion Darley sire Cape Cross.
