Iffraaj fronts European first-season premiership

Haunui Farm shuttler Iffraaj has taken the European juvenile premiership by storm with an unprecedented winning strike-rate in the last two months.

Iffraaj (Zafonic) was represented by his first winner when Nasharra scored a one-length victory at Leicester on May 17 and the total escalated to 17 after Goldenveil was successful at Ayr on Monday, July 19.

Iffraaj shuttles to New Zealand from Darley’s Irish base at Kildangan Stud and he is arguably the best sprinting stallion to have been retired to stud in New Zealand  in recent years.

Iffraaf was Timeform’s highest rated sprinter of Europe in 2006 after taking the G2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood and G2 Park Stakes at York.  He was also beaten a head when runner-up to Les Arcs in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket.

The Haunui shuttler represents the Mr Prospector dynasty through Zafonic and his pedigree is world class through his dam Pastorale.  She is a half-sister to Cape Cross who has sired world-class gallopers Sea The Stars and Ouija Board.

Iffraaf covered 130 mares in his first southern season in 2008.  His first foals reached $50,000 at the  NZ Bloodstock National Sale in May.  He will stand a third southern season at Haunui Farm in 2010 at a $10,000 (+ gst) service fee.
