Impressive mare a winner for Playing God

Trainer Ash Maley has black-type plans for his Playing God mare Impressive Jewel after her brave victory in the Unite Resourcing Hcp (1300m) at Belmont on Wednesday.

She was racing first-up since a winter campaign topped by a pleasing fourth in the LR Belmont Oaks (2020m) at Bunbury in July and her connections had Tash Faithfull to thank for an enterprising ride.

Impressive Jewel took off at the 600m and was there to be run down in the straight but keep lifting with the line in sight to just hold out Belta Of A Song (Your Song).  “She didn’t have a long time in the paddock and I told the owners she was forward enough to give this a shake,” Maley said.  “She’s a quality mare and there will be lot of improvement to come.”

The LR Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) will likely be her next assignment this Saturday, November 29.

“She was a bit tubby today and was run off her feet before they put the brakes on at the 600m,” Faithful reported.  “She’s not a sit and sprint horse so I decided to pop out and go forward.  She’s a beautiful mare, big and strong and showed us last prep will come on and go further this season.”

Impressive Jewel was bred by Elvira Park owner David Moore at his historic property in Australind.  She’s the fifth winner overall for her dam Royale Harvest (High Yield) who had foaled two earlier winners for Amelia Park before changing hands in 2015.

Royale Harvest was a multiple city-winning sprinter at Ascot (4) and Belmont (3) for trainer Lou Luciani.  Second-dam Bird Royale (Bluebird) was another four-time winner at Ascot and one of her three Listed placings was in the 1997 Jungle Dawn Classic won Ahava (Southern Appeal).
