Improving mare trots in at Echuca

Incoming Sunspeed sire Globetrotter (USA) landed his latest win when Meowie Wowie spaced her rivals by more than three lengths at Echuca on Thursday.

The Rob Blacker-trained mare (pictured) started a $3.40 favourite second-up following an autumn spell.  She stepped straight up to a mile and was a mile too good in the Sportsbet Hcp (1600m).

“Rob was confident and had her trained to the minute,” jockey Daniel Moor explained.  “He told me to ride her quietly and she would steam home.  That’s how it worked out.  She stretched out in the straight and will appreciate longer trips from now on.”

Her dam Tigerpuss (Hold That Tiger) is from a half-sister to Dashing Eagle (G1 Flight Stakes) & Ringa Ringa Rosie (LR Hamden Stakes).

Meowie Wowie was bred by Brackley Park owners Grant & Joanne Dwyer.  They stood Globetrotter at their Avenel stud in Victoria before he was transferred to Forrest Beach Estate at Capel earlier this month.

Globetrotter (Street Cry) won the G3 Breeders’ Cup 2YO Stakes at Woodbine and, after being sidelined with a leg injury at three, returned to finish a close second in the G1 Charles Whittingham Memorial at Hollywood Park.

South-west breeders Robbie and Colin Smith stand him in association with trainer Brendon Fitzgerald for a $2,500 (inc gst) fee.  For further information, contact Robbie Smith on 0428 521 166 / rgnsmith1960@gmail.com
