An Indian Charlie colt topped Day 2 of the Fasig-Tipton Maryland 2YO Sale at $600,000 on Tuesday.  He was purchased by Patrice Miller of the Pennsylvania consulting firm EQB.

The colt had created a buzz at the breeze-up session when clocking 10.20s for 200 metres.  “We’re ecstatic,” Miller said.  “I watched him all week and he just makes the grade.  He does everything right.”

Sequel Bloodstock had initially bought the colt for $95,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling auction.  He is out of the unraced Summer Squall mare Bally Storm and is a half brother to Silver Bayer (Smoke Glacken) who finished second in the Birdonthewire Stakes at Calder and the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

The $600,000 price tag bettered the Day 1 session-topping filly by Malibu Moon that made $390,000.

It was clear that Indian Charlie offspring had made a good impression among buyers at the sale, as not long after the $600,000 Indian Charlie colt became the sale topper, another of his colts was hammered down for $300,000.

“Indian Charlie himself is red-hot, and the two that sold on Day 2 both worked extremely well and were very nice individuals,” Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said.  “Their prices were not a surprise.”

The Day 2 figure of $8.19 million was reached at an average of $49,370.

Overall, the sale grossed $16.19 million at an average of $47,348 which was only $640 below the 2010 results.
