WANTED capped a tremendous day for Inglis at Flemington on Saturday when he grabbed a well-deserved Group 1 in the Newmarket Handicap. Inglis Easter graduates won five of the six races at the rain-shortened meeting.
Wanted (Fastnet Rock) was an $800,000 buy for Eddie Haysen at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale. He was bred and sold by Ron Gilbert’s Highgrove Stud and was the most expensive yearling in Fastnet Rock’s first crop.
The Newmarket was also a great result for Widden Stud who recently secured Wanted for stud duties starting this spring.
SHAAHEQ (Redoute’s Choice) started Super Saturday on a positive note for Easter graduates when she stitched up a start in the Golden Slipper by taking the G3 TBV Breeders Stakes. She cost $350,000 at the 2009 Easter Sale and Arrowfield will offer a sister to her as Lot 366 at this year’s Easter Sale.
DISSOLVED (Lonhro) justified the faith of trainer John Hawkes when he was too strong in the Listed MSS Security Stakes. The Lonhro colt was a $300,000 buy at the 2008 Easter Sale and had collected an Inglis Bonus at Sale last October.
CAPTAIN COLTISH (Fusaichi Pegasus) broke through for his first stakes success in winning the Listed Schweppervescence Trophy. The Peter Moody trained four year-old, who races in the famous Makybe Diva colours, was an $800,000 buy at the 2007 Easter Sale. Coolmore Stud has two of his close relations heading to Easter next month.
FAINT PERFUME (Shamardal) resumed from a spell with a superb win in the G2 Kewney Stakes. Trainer Bart Cummings will now try to complete the VRC-AJC Oaks double with the filly heads to Sydney next month. She was passed-in for $40,000 at Easter (Session II) in 2008. Think Big Stud will offer a Pendragon half-brother to Faint Perfume as Lot 273 at Easter this year.
The Flemington full-house brings to 48 the tally of stakes races won by Easter graduates in Australia this season with Wanted being the sixth Group 1 winner.
