Darley champion Exceed And Excel topped the Inglis Classic Winter yearling sale in Sydney on Sunday with a filly from Longueville Lass that made $50,000.

Offered by Rheinwood Pastoral, the filly was passed-in prior to Scott Asprey making a successful bid after she left the sale-ring.

Canberra trainer Matt Dale snapped up the highest priced colt when going to $47,500 for Willow Park Stud’s colt by Not A Single Doubt from Diamond de Triano.

Sydney trainer Pat Webster paid $45,000 for a Sebring – Hairy colt while Sam Kavanagh purchased a Sebring – Pearl Ardane filly for $37,500.  Gerald Ryan filled out the Top 5 with a Rothesay – Eugenie Gold filly for $34,000.

Inglis reported 102 yearlings sold at an average of $9,177.  The clearance rate was a disappointing 72%.

“I would have liked a much stronger clearance,” Inglis managing director Mark Webster said.  “This end of the market is more susceptible to the nation’s overall consumer confidence which took a big dive after last month’s Federal Budget.”
