Prize Catch provided a little ray of sunshine for Lindsey Smith on Saturday following a severe setback to his stable star Scales Of Justice.

Smith reported the 2016 Railway Stakes winner required spinal surgery which puts his racing future in doubt. A 6yo son of Not A Single Doubt, he hasn’t been seen since finishing down the track in last year’s Railway.

Scales Of Justice was purchased by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) for $180,000 at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale and has earned $1.42 million for owners Chris Wells and Bill Andrews.

Prize Catch (Zoffany) improved his record to 7 wins and $220,000 with a second-up victory in the Magic Millions Hcp (1400m) at Belmont on Saturday. He was a $42,000 Boomer Bloodstock buy at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for a syndicate that includes former Carlton premiership player Ross Ditchburn.

“He did a good job but I didn’t expect him to win today,” Smith admitted. “They went hard and the weight helped. He’s a natural athlete so maybe it’s the Ross Ditchburn effect.”

Prize Catch will be set for the LR Northam Cup (1600m) on October 28. Ditchburn has already opened his feature-race account this season with Cougar Express (Danehill Express) in the $250,000 Grand National Hurdle (4200m) at Sandown on August 4.

Smith and Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rousefell are also on a roll towards Perth’s summer carnival with Epic Grey (Wicked Style). He won the WA Magic Millions 3YO Trophy in February and resumed with an impressive second, carrying 60kg on a Heavy 8, at Pinjarra last week.

Boomer Bloodstock horses won over 50 races around the world during 2017-2018 including six individual 2yo winners in Australia and a stakes winner in USA.

Dutch Art sprinter Double Touch (pictured) flew the Boomer flag at Del Mar winning the LR Wickerr Stakes in July.

Westerdale (Flat Out) is another exciting American prospect, demonstrating his enormous talent when blitzing a Belmont maiden by 14 lengths on debut. He was a $150,000 Boomer buy at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale.
