Rosemont Stud mares completed an international double on Wednesday when Kneeling scored a courageous victory in the LR Wangoom Hcp (1200m) at Warrnambool.

The feature sprint was run less than 24 hours after Rosemont graduate Alboran Sea pulled off a massive plunge on debut in South Africa.

Jockey Linda Meech steered all the short-cuts on Kneeling and the Peter Moody trained mare lasted to score in a thrilling four-way finish from Blackie, Magnus Reign and Anlon.  “I made a special trip to ride her work on Saturday morning just to make sure she was still going good,” Meech said.  “And she worked the house down.

“If it was any other race bar the Wangoom, I would have declared her.”

Kneeling (6m by Encosta De Lago – Sunday Service by Sunday Silence) had won the LR Crockett Stakes at Moonee Valley as a spring three year-old and then furthered her career with a running double in Queensland and a Group 3 placing in Tasmania earlier this year.

She is raced by Yarraman Park with Moody’s wife Sue and joining them in the cheer squad was Anthony Mithen.

The Rosemount Stud owner purchased Kneeling’s dam Sunday Service for $150,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions National Sale.  The mare delivered a Foxwedge colt in November and is back in foal to Rosemount sire Toorak Toff.

Mithen also bred Alboran Sea after buying her dam for a snip at the 2011 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.  A USA import, Lady’s Light was culled by Coolmore Stud – carrying Alboran Sea – for just $20,000.

Alboran Sea (2f Rock Of Gibraltar – Lady’s Light by Toolighttoquit) went through the ring again – this time on four feet – as part of Rosemont’s consignment at the at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Form Bloodstock bought her for $105,000 on behalf of champion trainer Mike de Kock and leading South African breeder Mary Slack who owns Wilgerbosdrift Stud.

Punters plunged the Victorian-bred filly on debut in the All To Come Juvenile Plate (1000m) at Clairwood on Tuesday.  She firmed from $15 into a $2.40 favourite and landed the money by three-quarters of a length.

Mithen’s calculated gamble in buying Lady’s Light has also paid dividends.  The mare foaled a colt by Toorak Toff in August and was then bred back to his Rosemont colleague Starspangledbanner.
