The Lloyd Williams clearance sale at the Gold Coast on January 18 is the biggest and best draft ever offered by the Hudson Conway team.
Magic Millions Bloodstock Manager Paul Knight said the last Lloyd Williams dispersal at the Gold Coast included the lightly-raced Hume. He was sold for $22,000 and he went on to earn his new connections almost $300,000, including G3 Qld Tattersalls Cup.
The 31 Williams-owned lots to be offered at the Magic Millions Racehorse Sale will be available for inspection on Monday, January 17 and Tuesday, January 18.
Nick Williams said his father culled horses he doubted could win at Group 1 level and constantly sold them to make way for new purchases. “But you cannot be right all the time in racing and one example was when we sold Subscribe. He was renamed Vengeance Of Rain and became the champion racehorse of Hong Kong with stake-earnings of more than $HK75 million.”
Highlights of horses being offered at the Lloyd Williams Hudson Conway Racing annual dispersal (in lot order) are:
TINDAL (5g Testa Rossa-Indian Spice). Lot 1208
Moonee Valley and Flemington winner as a two-year-old, a stakes winner at Flemington at three and a Moonee Valley winner at four. For a five year old, Tindal looks ideally placed to do his future racing in the metropolitan area of any state in Australia.
BARON (4g Galileo-Pride Of The Class). Lot 1226
Galileo gelding with just nine starts for three wins and two placings, with his winning distances ranging from 1400 metres to 1850 metres. He ran 3rd over 1600 metres at Sandown on January 3, has the ability to handle all track conditions, races well fresh then trains on into his preparation and looks one of the most attractive lots in the Williams draft.
INTERLOCKING (7g Zabeel-Give It A Whirl). Lot 1255
Veteran who still retains a great zest for his racing. A winner three of his 17 starts, Interlocking ran a brave third over 2500 metres at Flemington on December 18, leading for the majority of that race. His best form is at 2000 metres and beyond, and he still has plenty to offer.
IREL (4g Istidaad-God’s Angel). Lot 1256
Rapidly developing stayer who could be a feature race winner within the next year. The four year old has won four of his 13 starts and ran a solid third in the Listed Bagot Handicap over 2800 metres at Flemington on New Year’s Day. He is a versatile horse that can race near the lead or come from back in the field, handles all track conditions and still looks to be improving. He is one of the star lots of this year’s draft.
LEADING (3g Savabeel-Vanessatheundressa). Lot 1258
Recorded a barnstorming win over 1200 metres at Echuca on December 31. He raced very greenly on that occasion, so he is still a very raw product that is open to further improvement and looks a smart horse in the making.
MALING (4g Redoubte’s Choice-Warm Smytzer). Lot 1259
Very handy horse in the making. He is unbeaten in two runs on good tracks; has already shown that he is in good form with a strong win over 1600 metres at Echuca on December 31 and looks to have the capacity to race over much further ground.
MODULE (5g Reset-Miss Helterskelter). Lot 1262
One of the highlight lots of this year’s draft. The five year old has had eight starts for three wins including a city win at Sandown in May 2009 which was followed by a brave second to the highly regarded Moudre at Flemington. He has only had one run back from a spell finishing a solid third behind the exciting Belgietto at Flemington on December 18.
MORLEY (4g Al Maher-Hampton Rover). Lot 1264
Bold front running horse that makes his own luck in his races and has been effective at distances up to 1400 metres. With the benefit of a spell, Morley is likely to improve further and should manage a strong 1600 metres with time and maturity.
NAPIER (5g Zabeel-Silk Slipper). Lot 1265
A winner of two races over 1750 metres and 2200 metres from just seven starts to date. Has been patiently nurtured and should be an honest competitor in the right company for several seasons.
OBLAQUE (5g Delago Brom-Clouding Over). Lot 1266
Started his career in flying style with a big win on debut over 1400 metres at Bendigo in June, 2008. The five year old has never managed to recapture that performance in subsequent outings but his current rating of 62 means that he only has to recapture something like his best form and he is a very well graded horse.
