Jack earns crack at Caulfield carnival

Doubtful Jack earned a crack at racing’s elite level with his barnstorming win in the G3 Bobbie Lewis Hcp (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Doubtful Jack (3g Not a Single Doubt – Toosie Roll by Marscay) demoralised his rivals when racing first-up after an outstanding winter campaign that included a Listed result in the Winter Championship Final at headquarters.

Moody mentioned the G1 Rupert Clark Stakes and G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield as possible targets for the gelding.  “He’s a very fit horse – he had five or six runs during the winter – so we’ve just kept him ticking over,” Moody explained.  “He’s such a laid back character and he doesn’t knock himself around.”

Moody purchased Doubtful Jack for $100,000 on behalf of stable client Allan Meads from the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  “He excels on rain-affected ground so let’s hope the wet weather hangs around for Caulfield.”

Doubtful Jack is a son of Arrowfield Stud’s instant success Not a Single Doubt and is a half brother to two winners including the dam of current Gold Coast trained speedster Fab Fevola.  Their dam Tootside Roll is a sister to the Adelaide Group winner Honour Code.

Not A Single Doubt came close to siring his initial G1 winner when Squamosa was nailed by Toorak Toff in the Golden Rose at Rosehill a fortnight ago.  He stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield and is available at a $13,750 (inc gst) service fee this year.
