James O’Brien new president of TBV

Tim Johnson has stepped down as President of Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria.

At the TBV August Board meeting, Johnson advised he would be seeking election to the Racing Victoria Board.  TBV is a Racing Victoria member and for Johnson to be a qualified candidate, it’s a requirement he resign from the TBV board.

Johnson has operated Ealing Park since 1988 and currently provides specialised legal advice to the thoroughbred industry through his Melbourne based firm Stable Legal.  He has served on the TBV Board since 2004 and as President since 2007.

Current TBV Vice-President James O’Brien will take over as President upon the acceptance of Johnson’s resignation.

O’Brien is operations manager of Lauriston Thoroughbreds which is based 120km south-east of Melbourne on the shores of Western Port Bay.  O’Brien part-owned Group 1 filly Gold Edition with his parents Kevin and Tanith but the family has gradually moved away from a racing operation in recent years to concentrate on breeding.

Lauriston Thoroughbreds led the vendor list at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale with 6 yearlings averaging $194,167.
