Atlantic Jewel was backed off the map for the G1 Thousand Guineas on Friday and she firmed even further after outclassing a slick field of fillies in the BMW Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Mark Kavanagh’s outstanding filly is now an even-money favourite for the classic on Wednesday, October 12.  

Atlantic Jewel (3f Fastnet Rock – Regard by Zabeel) is unbeaten in three runs after priors at Geelong and Moonee Valley.  “She’s a very good filly and I rate her right up there,” Kavanagh said.  “She put on weight between runs and that’s a pretty good indication of how she is going.”

Damien Oliver was riding the Vinery graduate for the first time and has no doubts she is among the most promising fillies in the land.  “She had them covered a long way out,” Oliver explained.  “She idled the last 200 metres and was just looking around.  She’s all quality”

Atlantic Jewel was a $320,000 buy from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She was purchased by Coolmore agent Demi O’Byrne and runs in their blue silks.

Ironically, the winner is by Coolmore sire Fastnet Rock and is the first named foal for the Lloyd Williams owned mare Regard who won two of her three starts at Bendigo and Sandown.

Vinery also sold a Commands – Regard filly as agent at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She was purchased by Brad Spicer for $205,000.

Atlantic Jewel can emulate Fastnet Rock filly Irish Lights who won the Thousand Guineas two years ago carrying Coolmore blue silks.
