Jimando a Caulfield Commando

Commands colt Jimando became the first two-year-old stakes winner of the new season for his sire in the LR Debutants Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Wednesday.

Jimando (2c Commands – Finko by Caerleon) launched his claim rounding the home turn and raced away to score by more then three lengths.

The Tony McEvoy trained colt was sold by Evergreen Stud for $50,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  “I never had any intention of running him at two but he kept telling me to take him to the races,” McEvoy said.  “He will be much better at three.”

McEvoy trains out of Kildalton Park in South Australia which was formerly part of Lindsay Park.  He has worked at the property for over 30 years including a stint as head trainer while David Hayes was based in Hong Kong.

He was Melbourne’s premier trainer in 2002-03 and won the 2003 Cox Plate with Fields Of Omagh.

McEvoy said Jimando would contest the G3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington on November 5 before a decision is made whether to set him for the $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Jimando’s dam Finko is a daughter of the G1 winning Blushing Groom mare Rosefinch.

Commands was Australia’s leading sire of individual winners in 2010-11 with a new benchmark of 155.

The Darley resident is the sire of 42 individual stakes winners highlighted by G1 winners Erewhon, Purple and Skilled as well as recent stakes winners Lamasery, Rain Affair and Ambidexter.

Commands stands at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc gst).
